IRIS+™ Edge

Edge™ CI Server Requirements

16min

IRIS+™ Edge CI enables IRIS+ software deployment on a customer’s hardware to connect ONVIF / RTSP fixed IP cameras from the camera’s network to a centralized IRIS+ Core. One or multiple IRIS+ Edge Devices (IRIS+ Edge CI, IRIS+ Edge 10, or a mix of both) process the video stream, transforming it into Irisity’s proprietary metadata and sending it to an IRIS+ Core, which will then perform all central management and advanced analysis.

Contact Irisity's Presales at [email protected] to receive a customized hardware specification matching your specific deployment needs.

Operating system

  • Ubuntu 22.04, LTS 64-bit, server edition with no GUI installed

Number of supported cameras

The number of cameras supported by a given Edge device depends on the following factors:

  • Hardware specifications
  • Video streaming profile
  • Scene activity level ( see Appendix A for scene activity level examples)

Hardware

(Processor’s number of physical cores; CPU base frequency; Memory - number of DIMMs)

  • 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor (Cascade Lake)
  • 3rd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor (Ice Lake)
  • 4th Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor (Sapphire Rapids)

The selection of any alternate model should be approved by Irisity.

Video streaming profile

  • H.264 @ 720p @ 8FPS
  • H.264 @ 1080P @ 15 FPS
  • H.264 @ 1080P @ 30 FPS
  • H.265 @ 720P @ 8 FPS
  • H.265 @ 1080P @ 15 FPS
  • H.265 @ 1080P @ 30 FPS

If you use any other streaming profile, set a secondary streaming profile with one of the options above.

Scene activity level

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

See Appendix A for scene activity-level examples

Storage

Storage type

solid-state drive (SSD) is/are mandatory

Operating System & application

256GB

For IRIS+™ Essentials

No additional storage is required

For IRIS+™ Enterprise or IRIS+™ Analyst

For viewing investigation results, two options are available in the Camera Settings/Full frame recording field:    1. Full frame recording Disabled (default): low-resolution image crops of the detected object are displayed in the investigation results. Video clips are not available

2. Full frame recording Enabled: Internal storage is used for video recording. Video clips of investigation results are played in the IRIS+ Portal at 720p, 1 FPS.

Other considerations

  • IRIS+ Edge CI can be deployed on a VM. The supported camera count may be reduced
  • The IRIS+ Edge CI server should not host other non-IRIS+ applications
  • Cameras connected to IRIS+ Edge CI must have static IP addresses  (dynamic IP allocation may result in camera disconnections)

Networking requirements from IRIS+™ Edge to IRIS+™ Core

Average Required bandwidth per camera:

  • 5 kbps upload
  • 0.5 kbps download

Additional upload bandwidth:

  • Real-Time Event Detections: ~500 KB per event
  • Live View in IRIS+ GUI: ~300 Kbps per camera

Maximum allowed latency from the IRIS+ Edge to the IRIS+ core:

  • 2,000 milliseconds

Support camera characteristics

  • Resolution: as listed above
  • Frame rate: 8 FPS is the minimal supported frame rate
  • The video resolution width should be divisible by 4
  • The maximum allowed aspect ratio is 4:1

Irisity Virtual Edge

The IRIS+™ Virtual Edge requires the same hardware specifications as IRIS+ Edge CI, however, it is applicable only for Customer Hosted deployments. The server/s of the IRIS+ Virtual Edge are installed together with the IRIS+ Core under the same Kubernetes cluster.

Appendix A: Scene Activity Level - Examples

Scene activity refers to the number of objects in a frame, measured over time. Low, Medium, and High are defined in the following levels. The following screenshots and related short video clips show two examples per level:

Low

Perimeter Intrusion

Medium

Small-Mid size city traffic - scene 1

High

Notes

  • The Edge™ Device server should not host other non-IRIS+™ applications
